The NMOSD Symposium for health care providers is a comprehensive educational event designed to provide healthcare professionals with the latest insights and advancements in the understanding and management of Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) and Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Disease (MOGAD). This symposium aims to enhance clinical expertise and foster collaboration among neurologists and other healthcare providers involved in the care of patients with NMOSD or MOGAD. Dr. Sylvester and Dr. Leekoff, both recognized specialists, will contribute their expertise to the program, offering valuable perspectives on diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.

Objectives:

The primary objective of this symposium is to provide an in-depth understanding of Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) and Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Disease (MOGAD) to healthcare professionals. The symposium aims to enhance knowledge and clinical practice by focusing on the following key areas:

1. Pathogenesis: To explore the underlying mechanisms of NMOSD, with a focus on recent advances in understanding the immunological and molecular pathways involved. This will include discussions on the role of aquaporin-4 and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibodies in the disease process.
2. Treatment: To review current and emerging therapeutic strategies for NMOSD, highlighting evidence-based approaches for acute management and long-term disease control. This will encompass a detailed examination of immunosuppressive therapies, biologics, and novel treatment modalities.
3. Symptomatic Management: To address the comprehensive management of NMOSD symptoms, including pain, mobility issues, and vision impairment. The session will provide practical guidance on multidisciplinary care approaches to improve patient quality of life.
4. Awareness and Resources: To increase awareness of the newly established NMO Center in New Jersey, the first of its kind in the state, which will serve as a dedicated resource for patient care, research, and education. Attendees will learn about the center's services, referral processes, and opportunities for collaboration in patient management and clinical research.
