Michael Simpson, MD
Dr. Michael Simpson was raised in northern New Jersey and earned his undergraduate degree from Columbia University where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biochemistry and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He completed his medical education at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons where he earned the Knapp Award as one of the top students in his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
Dr. Simpson continued at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center for his cardiothoracic surgical residency where he also spent time as a postdoctoral research fellow studying signaling pathways in degenerative mitral regurgitation and mechanisms of bioprosthetic valve failure. He has presented and published several papers in the fields of thoracic transplantation, valvular disease, and endocarditis.
Dr. Simpson performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery. He has specialized experience and interest in surgical treatment of advanced heart failure, arterial revascularization in coronary bypass surgery, and robotic heart surgery for mitral valve repair and robotic assisted coronary bypass surgery.
He is excited to be a part of Atlantic Health and Mid-Atlantic Surgical Associates bringing the highest quality cardiac surgical care to his home state.
